The Annual Picton Rotary Wine Festival will be held on April 25, 2009 at the historic Crystal Palace at the Picton Fairgrounds. In the premiere wine event of the season, the top chefs of our region will once again work in tandem to present a gourmet five course dinner paired with a selection of County grown and produced wines. The event will also feature more than $25,000 worth of auction items, both live and silent, with all proceeds from the event directed to Rotary Club charitable initiatives within the community. Over the past years, our guests have demonstrated their support of the event, not merely through attendance at the dinner, but also through their generosity in supporting the event’s main purpose, to raise monies through Rotary to support local charitable initiatives and community needs, such as needed equipment for our local Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital. The first annual Rotary Wine Festival in 2003 was successful in providing a donation in excess of $12,000 to the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital for the purchase of a drug dispenser for the in patient ward as well as a $2200 donation to the Prince Edward County Winegrowers Association Bursary Fund which offers monetary assistance to a County resident pursuing secondary education in viticulture or oenology. In 2004 proceeds of the event were directed to the purchase of a Physiotherapy Mobility table and a Cardio event recorder for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital ($13,000), as well as establishing the Russ Perkin Memorial Scholarship for high school students of need at Prince Edward Collegiate Institute ($5,000). Last year, monies were donated towards the endoscopy equipment at our hospital. Our success is measured by the extent that our club can assist our community.
