Volcanes - Puerto Vallarta, Mexico

School, Teacher and Foodbank Assistance
At that time, the classrooms were a derelict block adjacent to the school. The students did not learn English, nor did they have any classes teaching the necessary computer skills for a decent job in the tourist-driven local economy. Hence the establishment of the Volcanes School.

The students attend voluntarily after school hours and now, with the donation of many computers, books etc, the rooms are bright and well equipped.  Some former students now have degrees and various professional designations and it is rewarding to see them return to give back at the school.
The Rotary Club of Picton has supported the cost of one teacher for one month for many years…..but now COVID-19 has temporarily closed the Volcanes School.  Our Club, and individual members, are generously supporting the Foodbank, which is also run by Rotarian Art Fumerton. Apparently  US$15 is enough to feed a family of 4 for a month!
David Burn became interested in the Volcanes Education Project after sitting next to Arthur Fumerton at a Club meeting and the subsequent visit with him to the school.
