Guest Speaker, Alysa Hawkins, gave a presentation on the “Lunch Program” at PECI.  The County is deemed to have high food insecurity particularly for school children.  Alysa, a volunteer, started with the “Snack” program which has been expanded to the “Lunch” program providing 100 lunches daily, 3 days a week.  The current goal is to extend the program to 4 days a week, which would require a total of 22 volunteers, so more volunteers are being sought.  $500 was approved to be donated today to the Lunch Program.

This program is part of Food for Learning, an organization that ensures that all students have daily access to healthy nutritious food while at school. When students eat better, they can learn better. Food for Learning provides food to over 10,000 local children each school year, in the form of a balanced breakfast, healthy snack or nutritious lunch. All publicly funded schools within Hastings and Prince Edward counties offer Food for Learning student nutrition programs daily. For more details, go to https://www.hpefoodforlearning.ca/.
